Have you visited a Magnolia showroom lately?
When was the last time you’ve visited your local Best Buy store? If it is a while, you owe it to yourself to go and see all the latest changes.
We love going to our local Best Buy store. In fact, it has replaced toy and bookstores in our weekly itinerary as our son grew up. He enjoys staying on top of all new movies and videos games releases, gadgets and of course, the latest sales.
And we never leave without a complete walkthrough of the Magnolia showroom. As avid entertainment lovers, we are always mesmerized by the new sound technology displays that help enhance our movies and video games experience.
Guess what tops our son’s wishlist?
Back in the sixties, my dad bought my mom a Grundig radio turntable as their fifteenth wedding anniversary present. It was so much more than an electronic device- it was a cherished piece of the furniture. And we all got our pictures next to it!
Every evening he’d sit next to it with a cup of dark tea and listen to his jazz records before bedtime. On weekends my parents would invite their friends over for appetizers, put on the latest Elvis record and dance in the living room.
I remember buying my first 45’ mini record of ‘Mommy Blue’ with money I made from my first babysitting gig. My dad sat me down and gave me a 30-minute lesson on how to use the turntable.During my teen years, I managed to amass quite the collection of LP’s. I used to play them repeatedly till they were scratched and not useable.
As I grew up, technology moved away from the turntables to the crisper clearer sounding tape recorders and CD players. So, like many others, I was sure that turntables were a relic of the past; worthy of being exhibited at the Smithsonian.
But I was wrong.
Surprisingly in the last few years’ turntables have made an impressive comeback!
Turntables are more popular than ever, and my son’s generation happily adopted them. Our son has been saving to buy one for months. In fact, he has been buying old records in expectation of owning a turntable one day.
This month his dream is about to come true. With the Magnolia March AudioFest discounts, the turntable he wants finally dropped in price, and he got to order it online.
My own wishlist
I have a mini wishlist too!
As a frequent traveler, I love carrying my own set to use in airports and hotel rooms as well as during flights. And I use them a lot!
My eight-year-old Bose headphones have adequate sound but the padding is peeling, and I’d like to upgrade to a set without a cumbersome cord. I already have my sights set on a nice pair of noise canceling wireless headphones even though I intend to check out the weekly savings all month long to make sure I don’t miss any other fabulous deal.
