Traveling with Autism? Pack a SCOTTeVEST Quest Vest

While traveling, one of the most important and often overlooked tools is the pocket. Travelers, especially those with kids, will often find they run out of room in their pockets during their travels. SCOTTeVEST company hopes to help mitigate this challenge by creating clothing with many pockets placed strategically to keep one valuable’s safe and secure.

What is the SCOTTeVEST

The SCOTTeVEST is a line of specially designed clothing with many pockets – up to forty-two. These clothes are meant to help travelers carry anything they need with them in a safe place. The pockets are all placed throughout the item of clothing. The clothes are designed to carry the weight of the items well and conceal them in a stylish form.

While the website advertises their jacket and vest lines, they offer a wide variety of clothes for both men and women. Both sections provide vests and jackets. The men’s section includes regular shirts, button up shirts, pants, shorts, and even boxer shorts. The women’s section includes dresses, skirts, trench coats, and cardigans. The site even offers a baseball hat with two concealed pockets. All clothing items come in many sizes from extra small to extra large. Some of the clothing comes in several color choices.

What we liked about the company is the fact that parents and kids alike can get something that matches their personal style or goes with outfits they already own. Parents to teens or young adults with autism can help them pick their own “explorer” or “Indiana Jones” inspired outfit to get them excited about traveling.

How is the SCOTTeVEST Useful?

For parents of children with autism, carrying items while traveling is a frequent problem as one might need to bring anything from additional entertainment devices to medical necessities. There are also safety concerns to worry about, especially in areas where pickpocketing is common. A backpack or purse can be easily stolen or lost while traveling, and it can be difficult for parents to access needed supplies stored in a pack quickly and efficiently.

The SCOTTeVEST Quest vest provides traveling families with plenty of places to keep items. The pockets are large and held close to the body. Some pockets can be zipped or buttoned closed. Others are placed inside the item of clothing as well as on the outside. The vest is designed so that the things inside the pockets don’t bulge out and make themselves apparent, which can be both a stylish and safe choice.

Our Take

When we tried the SCOTTeVEST Quest vest, we were impressed with the amount of room the pockets provided. As advertised, we found plenty of places to put much-needed items. With that said even without items, the vest had a bit more weight than a  typical one. Some kids with autism might have difficulties with this fact. Others might like it, as it does feel a little like a weighted blanket with items in the pockets.

Overall, we liked the fashionable versatile design along with the hood that was tucked in the tip neckline pocket. The feature turned out to be very useful during the sudden downpours in  Walt Disney World. Furthermore,  the quick-drying fabric of the Quest vest was a perfect way to keep our son dry and comfortable during our theme park visit.
