Mac or PC?

I just have to share this no matter how goofy it is.

As many of you may know my nephew is Autistic and has an insatiable obsession with computers and anything computer related. To give you an example, he had never heard or seen MACS before I got mine. He watched me messing around on it once and had it memorized. He has even read and understood my college level computer books and he is only 9.

So anyway, my mom decided this past weekend to get a new computer, something that had been on her mind sometime now, and when my nephew found out, he was ecstatic! He started telling my mom EVERYTHING about the computer she needed. So we took him with us to Sam’s club to find one.

Now here is where it gets great.

So we get to the computer section and the kid insists on playing with each computer, which he did. During this time we had called over a sales rep. to ask him a few questions. My nephew then begins to “quiz” him about the very computers the man is getting paid to sell. (Here it comes!) My nephew actually knew MORE about the computers than this 30 something-year-old sales rep and was able to pinpoint the better computer. lol, The downside is that the one he deemed the best was not available. The upside is that he deemed one of the other ones just a good and we purchased it.

So far, it has been the best Microsoft based computer we have ever owned. Ever. Gotta love those Aspies. 🙂

Are you a MAC or a PC person?

  • Well I got a new MacBook Pro, my first Mac ever, and I am a little displeased with it. Mostly because of the compatibility with other programs. It certainly is better than PC’s in some areas but not the greatest. Luckily I still have my HP desktop.

  • I got my Macbook a little less than a month ago, and I’m in love with it.  I can’t imagine going back to a PC.  I had to get on our desktop Dell to transfer some files, and it just felt… wrong.  I hate PCs now.

  • I use my mac for video editing and such — and I use my PC for pretty much everything else.
Overall, I would say I like OSX better than Vista 🙂

  • I’ve been on iMacs and they’re more consistent.

If you compare initial speed, and performance, Windows/PC’s definitely have the edge but only in the beginning. After a while of usage, they always. slow. down. While Mac’s don’t… seem to, anyway.

The only thing that annoys me is the lack of right clicking with those things, but otherwise, I don’t have any qualms.

I would love to try Mac out, but everything is so pricey! When my hand-me-down Windows stuff expired, I got brave and tried Linux. Wow, was I ever surprised! It’s amazingly newbie-friendly as well as free. I’m hooked now – and can’t imagine ever spending big bucks on a fancy Mac when Linux runs awesomely even on my low-resource hand-me-down box.

I’m an Aspie too, but always considered myself a non-geek until I found Linux… now I’m repartitioning hard drives and customizing everything from the desktop environment to applications with more ease and less worry than I ever would have imagined. Maybe an untapped resource I never knew my little Aspie brain was capable of, lol.

  • Back in the day, PCs were way better than Macs (I’m talking 10+ years ago). We had Macs in our school at that time and I had a PC at home. The Macs were slower and I just didn’t like them. Now, Macs have far surpassed PCs with their technology. I’ve had my Macbook for almost a year now, and I love it way more than PCs. I have to work with PCs at work and they are such a pain in the ass. Macs are easy, efficient, and much higher quality. If I had the choice, I would totally work exclusively with Macs.

In a recent interview, one of Apple’s CEO’s or whatever said that they wouldn’t be selling those little, cheap lap tops anytime soon because they were well below Apple’s quality standards. Haha, he basically said PCs are pieces of shit =D

So which one was the one that your nephew deemed the best? Just curious to know.

That’s adorable, though! Are you sure he’s autistic? He sounds like a genius.

  • I like both Mac and PC. 🙂 but that’s just me. I love technology in general. Anything that is USer friendly and doesn’t much problems. I hope Windows improve later on.

  • I like the mac for the design and all, but for my work and school purposes, I go PC.
And the price. As a student, the price for a mac BITES.

  • What an adorable story!  🙂

I use Macs and PC’s interchangeably.  My home computer is a Macbook Pro, but my work and husband’s computers are Windows machines (aside from our Linux home server, built from my old PC desktop).

  • i love my mac!  [:
muchh better and faster than our home computer, a pc.

and your story is pretty funny.
i have a 10 year old cousin that will be doing calculus in 10th grade at his pace, and his younger sister is going 8th grade math and she’s 8..

it’s amazing to see these little kids knowing and remembering more than some adults.
i’m only 18 but i know that my little cousins, and no doubt your nephew know more than i probably ever will!

  • As a programmer I prefer Windows for its’ flexibility.  However I am not adverse to Macs.. but they are so expensive.  My $700 Dell is more powerful than a $2000 Mac.  Good job Mac.. Good job.

One day I will make myself a hackintosh

MAC! I’ve been using PC for the last 17 years of my life and since XP and Vista came out, I have had nothing but problems. I got a Mac and I’m stickin’ to it.

  • PC by default, since I’ve never had my own Mac.  From a hardware standpoint, however, Macs are generally better (although anything is better than my current Dell).  From an operating system standpoint, I run Linux anyway, so if I switched to a Mac, I would still be using a Unix based operating system, which I highly prefer to Windows.

It’s awesome that your nephew knows so much about computers!  I took one programming course (Java) and found that it wasn’t for me.  I LOVE computers and could code decently, but I couldn’t troubleshoot whatsoever.  I’m getting better at it slowly, and I’ve always had a sort of intuitive understanding of technology, but it sounds like he has me beat by leaps and bounds.

  • MAC!!!!!!!! I am using a PC and have been for a while. 🙁 I hate it and I want a Mac again. There’s a lot of things I own that I wouldn’t think twice about trading all of, just to have one Mac.

  • Mac baby! I had a PC for years, and nothing compares the my Mac.

  • For the record, I’m a PC.  I like MACS, mostly for editing Audio and video.
