The Amazing Melatonin
We started Annie on the Melatonin last week. It has been amazing the difference it makes. Bedtime has been far less stressful and Annie is now usually asleep by 9pm. No more partying till 11pm or midnight.
Annie was not happy about taking Melatonin, I said that smart people would take the medicine their doctor recommended, but a dumb person would not take the medicine. So it was Annie’s choice – pandering to her love of always making the clever / smart choice.
Which is when it came out that she was very worried that if she got more sleep and was no longer unhappy she would not be the Annie she had always been. It was quite distressing to Annie to think that her personality would somehow change and we had a chat about how she would not become some different happy person, simply that getting more sleep would make her less unhappy.
I’ve not noticed a great change in her anxiety levels but it has only been a week, she has years of lost sleep to catch up on.
We waited until Heidi had finished her week of intensive OT before starting her on Melatonin and it was also successful. She actually fell asleep sitting on my lap on Sunday night! Amazing.
Hi, I’m new to xanga and Autisable and ran across your post. Melatonin is definitely a wonderful thing for folks who have trouble sleeping! :o)
