We Need to Talk Parent to Parent – Judgment
We need to chat parent to parent. Judgment sucks. Trust me, I know. People judge me all the time and love to share their opinions of me or my parenting decisions. It used to bother me and honestly, sometimes it still gets under my skin.
Here’s the thing about judgment. Humans tend to judge what they fear or don’t understand. That doesn’t make it right but it’s just part of life.
Unfortunately, parents like us, tend to be brutally judgmental of ourselves already, so when someone else adds their thoughts, feelings, or options, especially when it’s unsolicited, it tends to leave a mark.
Over the years I’ve had to learn to let as much of the judgment roll off of me as I can. Being in the public eye can make me a target and that’s okay because I have taught myself to largely ignore the comments that are made and at the very least, not let them get me down.
I know it’s easier said than done but the reality is that when someone judges you, the issue is with them and not you.
Don’t let what anyone says, thinks, or does make you feel like less of a parent or person. We all make mistakes but if you’re doing what you feel is best for YOUR child, it doesn’t have to make sense to random people in society. It doesn’t even have to make sense to the people in your life.
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be open to what people have to say but always remember that you know your child best and you need to do what works for your family.
Hold your head up high and remember that you’re doing an amazing job. Your kids are so lucky to have you. ❤️
