Things I learned growing up with autism

This guest blog post is by 24-year-old Nicholas Courgi of Fayetteville, NY. Nicholas recently spoke at an Autism Caregivers Brunch where he discussed obstacles he had to overcome associated with his autism. Watch his speech below.

I was diagnosed with high-functioning autism when I was 3 1/2 years old. My favorite hobbies include theater, photography, public speaking, computers (I am proficient Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint as well as Facebook, Snapchat & Instagram), going to movies & musicals, swimming, traveling, bowling, event planning, marketing & writing.

I worked as a Marketing Assistant at Syracuse Children’s Theatre for a year and hosted my own radio show, “Lives of Distinction” where I interviewed individuals with developmental disabilities.

This blog is part of an ongoing series on our site called “In Our Own Words: Living on the Spectrum,” which highlights the experiences of individuals with autism. Interested in contributing your story to our blog series? Email us at inourownwords@autismspeaks.org.
