If you or your kids are passionate about electronic gadgets, the Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® speaker will be your next favorite thing. Combining acoustic technology and innovative design the device successfully immerses users in clear yet deep sound.
What is the Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® speaker?
The new the Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® Speaker seeks to fill that gap between headphones and desk speakers. It is a wearable technology gadget that uses two waveguides in the neckband to push air to opposite ports and produce deep bass sounds. The innovative signal processing creates a sort of sound bubble around the user minimizing the subsequent noise for those around the user.
But before heading on to the store to check it out here are the seven things to know about it.
My personal interest in the Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® speaker
Our son with autism LOOOVES his music. He is particular about hearing it from top speakers and as any other teen or young adult he plays it super loud. Of course, that drives my husband and me nuts! Who can work or relax with loud music all day long?
Over the years we have tried pretty much everything- from buying him headphones to closing his door. But nothing worked. Because of his sensory issues, he doesn’t like the large bulky headphones pressing on his ears for a long time. The small in-ear headphones didn’t do the trick either since he loves playing with them and usually breaking them.
So naturally, I’ve been looking for an alternative!
How we liked it
#1 lightweight design
With its ergonomic design and soft silicone cover the SoundWear™ Companion® speaker is comfortable to wear all day long. Our son liked the way it sat on his shoulders along with the clear sound it delivered. In fact, he mentioned how glad he was to skip the headaches associated with the bulky tight headphones.
#2 keeps the noise level down
As parents, we appreciated the SoundWear™ Companion® speaker since it does keep the noise level down. Since it doesn’t sit directly on the ears, you can still hear some music but that ‘wall shaking loudness’ is gone! We can actually listen to our TV programs or carry on a conversation without yelling.
#3 Our concerns about hearing loss
You know how all teens and young adults blast their music. We all did it, and our kids are doing it too. The beauty of this device is that it doesn’t sit directly on the ears so while they can still hear the sound you don’t have to wonder what hearing damage they will incur in the future.
#4 washable cover
Parents will be happy with the Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® speaker Sweat- and weather-resistant stretch cover. I know I am. Our son isn’t the most careful person with his devices. This cover protects the device without affecting sound quality in the rain or from day to day mishaps like food or beverage spills. Did I mention this cover comes in fun additional colors (sold separately) and is washable?
#5 clearer phone conversations
I was thrilled to discover that with the Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® speaker conversations via Google on the I-Pad (our son’s favorite way of communication) sounded better even with background noise. We could finally carry on a phone conversation without me asking to repeat everything since I couldn’t understand what he was saying most of the time.
The Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® Speaker is compatible with iPhones, iPads as well as Samsung Phone or Tablet. Users can customize notifications access Siri or Google assistant using the Bose® Connect app.
#7 long life battery
Another noteworthy feature to mention is the 12-hour lithium battery life. You can literally listen to music all day without having to recharge the device. Again a blessing in my case since our son isn’t great about remembering to charge his electronics.
The Bose® SoundWear™ Companion® speaker a hybrid between traditional headphones and loudspeaker helps users listen to their music while minimizing the noise to their immediate surroundings. At 300$, this device is on the higher end of headphone pricing- which may be a deterrent for some. However, if you compare it to other Bluetooth wireless headphones on the market, I’d say it deliver cutting-edge technology at a comparable price.
With its sturdy build and top quality sound, it may be a good option for people with sensory challenges looking for a device to substitute in- ear or over the ears bulky headphones.
