Coco – November 22, 2017
We watched the trailer and loved the beautiful animation and upbeat music. You will have to wait until November 22, 2017, to find out the rest of this story because I am not going to spoil it.
At the D23 Expo, we were treated to a performance of “Remember Me.” the movie theme song. Anthony Gonzalez (voice of Miguel) and Benjamin Bratt (voice of Ernesto de la Cruz) performed this song with more than 160 performers.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is a 21-minute featurette that will be shown in theaters with Coco. The heartwarming story is about Olaf helping the sisters develop their own family traditions. For parents tired of nonstop listening to ‘ Let it Go’ this is great news. The featurette has some catchy tunes that sound just as great!
Star Wars: The Last Jedi– December 15, 2017
Most of us die hard fans jumped out of our chairs with excitement over this one.Rian Johnson, the writer, and director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi joined Alan Horn on the stage at this year’s D23 Expo. While on stage Johnson introduced fans to some of the big names in the Star Wars Saga such as Mark Hammill, Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Dern to name a few.
Expect a thrilling adventure as the Force makes revelations about the past. Fans will see Luke training Rey to become a Jedi. Also, fans will be able to see Carrie Fisher’s final performance. Fisher passed away in December 2016 and was honored as a Disney legend on the first day of the Expo.
Wrinkle in Time – March 9, 2018
The Wrinkle in Time movie is sure to bring us back to our childhood days. In fact, my son with autism was super excited about the film. He still remembers reading this book in elementary school. After experiencing issues with peers, the principal character struggles to find her self-worth. Moreover, to return to Earth, she needs to learn to accept and love herself.
Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey, are among the stars that will help us relive the original story as they travel through the dimensions of space and time. The plot involves impressive cinematic effects and like all good stories highlights the power of love and family.
Avengers: Infinity War – May 4, 2018
For the past ten years, Avengers series has had us hooked. In this film, expect to see ALL your favorite Avengers characters. In the Avengers: Infinity War expect to see sacrifices from The Avengers and their Super Hero allies to stop Thanos. My tip is to keep your eyes out for unusual collectibles and products, as this is the official 10th anniversary of the first movie release.
For us, one of the more touching moments in the Expo was Stan Lee (one of the movie producers) inducted as a Disney legend! People were standing up and gave him such a standing ovation
Incredibles 2 – June 15, 2018
Like many others, we loved the original Incredibles. In this new flick, every family member has some super power. And to make it even better, the director Brad Bird hinted that in part two there would be a new mystery. Apparently, the dad stays at home while the mom is the heroine saving the world.Sounds like a perfect way to start the summer of 2018!
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – November 2, 2018
If Christmas is your favorite time of the year, then The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is perfect for you. This movie was introduced with a dance number by Lil Buck with a new way of street dancing called ‘Jookin.’
Building on the original Hoffman classic this newly reimagined movie sounds like it will become a family favorite. While the original Nutcracker is not a Disney original, on this rare occasion, they are going to take their live-action adaptations to the next level. With some top stars like Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren, the movie concept looked like a winner.
What sounded most interesting to us was the angle it was approached. from the presentation It seemed like the storyline is an interesting cross between the saccharine tale and a Tim Burton’s Alice vision.
WRECK-IT 2: Ralph Breaks the internet – November 21, 2018
I admit I wasn’t a big fan of the first one. However, this sequel might convince me to go.It sounds chaotic enough to be funny.
In this movie just like the first one, Ralph is on a mission. Instead of trying to break the arcade video game, Ralph wants to ‘break the internet’! OK, spoiler alert! No, he doesn’t actually want to break it. He is trying to help Vanellope. Also, the flick has an interesting twist. It features some notable guest appearances! Disney Princesses such as Moana, Anna, Merida, Rapunzel, Tiana, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Belle, and Ariel get entangled with Ralph and his antics.
Mary Poppins returns – December 25, 2018
The new Mary Poppins Returns a classic feel that it is going to be a continuation of the original Mary Poppins. For all of us that grew up on 1964 classic, this is probably one we will feel compelled to see. In this new one, Emily Blunt is stepping into the nanny shoes.
And from the trailer, it looks like she is doing a marvelous job. The plot sounds like a sequel to the original. And the theme is pretty much the same – finding the wonder and joy missing in life.Mary Poppins and her street lamplighter friend Jack are taking the newest generation Banks family on new adventures.
Dumbo Live Action – March 29, 2019
As we all know, Disney doesn’t shy away from challenges. This movie is probably one of the biggest one! Getting people to watch a live action movie with a flying elephant is no easy feat!
Filmmaker Tim Burton explained to the D23 crowd that the reason he agreed to direct it was that Dumbo was one of his favorite films. He proceeded to explain that he would be using state of the art visual effects to make Dumbo, and the other animals look real film.
My son and I are super excited about this one. Between the fact we loved the animated movie and admiration of Tim Burton genius we can’t wait for this one.
Lion King Live Action- July 19, 2019
I can say with all honesty; the Lion King looks phenomenal!
They will be using computer generated realistic animals, and they do not look scary at all. It’s hard to imagine Mufasa not looking scary. If anyone can make him look not scary, it is Disney.
John Favreau is the director. He was behind the 2016 live action remake of The Jungle Book, which was a huge success. As he eloquently put it “I wanted to demonstrate that we could be respectful of the source material while bringing it to life using new techniques and technologies.”
As you see, we were privy to an overload of excitement last weekend.
The atmosphere at the Expo was magical (no pun intended ) Most attendees we spoke to said they were eager to see the movies as soon as they come out.
My son and I have already made a list of which movies we want to see. In our case Star wars, Coco and a Wrinkle in Time top our list.
With so many exciting future releases which of the movies described top your ‘must see’ for the coming year?
