Poem: An ASD Mother’s Wish

I wish I could crawl around inside your head
so I could finally understand.

I wish you could remember to use the words you know
and that we’ve drilled you on
time
after time
after freaking time.

I wish the world wasn’t so painful for you.

I wish you could make a friend
a real friend
your own age.

I wish you could tell me about your day.

I wish everyone you’ll ever meet
will see you as I see you,
as a compassionate
loving
sweet
generous
beautiful boy.
