What is it about kids and fountains?

What is it about kids and fountains? Is it the sound? Motion? Sensory stimulation? Or is it all about the playing?

We have a nice one at our Town Green and the kids love the one at Preston Vineyards. During our recent trip to Thousand Oaks, both kids spent long periods of time playing by this fountain.

Made me happy, because I had a chance to relax and drink my morning coffee rations slowly, watching them enjoy themselves. The warmer weather (80* before 9:30am) helped too.

  • I think it’s how calming water can be, even the sound of it.

But I agree with a previous person in that it seems like most children, autistim spectrum or not, are drawn to water.

Personally, I’ve grown up doing a lot (with family and friends) that have to deal with water. My grandfather owns a boat we always use at every fammily vacation. Pools, sprinklers, water guns. There were a couple of summers where my intermediate family and I spent literally every Monday through Friday of every week of the summer at a friend’s pool. Even as a counselor, the children seemed to enjoy the water days or going to the pool the best.

  • Cute….
I agree about the water. Water splashing around is just intriguing and musical. It’s a wonder to see water spurting up in the air! And the feel of it is a whole different story!
I (water-obsessed person) personally used to play with toys in tubs of water in the sink for hours, water outside in the summer, and I still love fountains (and wish in them… and occasionally try to fish money out of them when being crazy with friends…) they’re great. And some fancy neighborhoods have fountains that are lit up at night.. sooo lovely.

  • Well.. when I was a kid (and I still do this), it’s because I like the water 🙂

  • I just always liked that there was water. Even now I like fountains. There’s a koi pond at the mall nearby and I love putting my hands in it.
