Improved Site Performance

If you’ve followed along on our journey as a site, you know that in the past couple of years there have been some minor bumps on the road.

We had a hiccup of sorts this past month, so allow us to dive into what happened – and what we are doing to improve the site as we move forward.

First, Autisable is powered by the wordpress platform.  This change happened a couple of years ago, with the past year where we’ve been improving user experience and getting things back on track.

However, being powered by wordpress does have some limitations – especially when you deal with plugins and themes.

Now to give the bad news – our old theme became out dated.  This led to it not being compatible with a many of our plugins.   It also led to a significant server load which caused the site to crash.

Yeah, not good.

We thought that it dealt with plugin compatibility, but not the theme… until we dove into the massive error file and tables.

Of course we’re always looking on the bright side of this challenge – it’s how we roll.

The good news is that through this we found a theme for the site that allows us to eliminate several plugins – which makes the site run a lot faster!
So if you’ve been here before and seen how it’s different, now you know why.

It’s a change that was necessary to make sure we’re still active and serving the community.  We understand that some may not like the new look, and we appreciate your feedback.  Minor tweaks to how things look will continue over the next few weeks, but we really don’t want to make too many changes during the Holiday’s.

We’re just glad to be able to continue serving the community, and appreciate your patience as we improve the site.

Feel free to leave a comment and share any ideas on how we can improve your experience on Autisable.

Thank you.
