Finding Florida : Bluefoot Pirate Adventures

Finding Florida this week brings us to Bluefoot Pirate Adventures children’s pirate cruise located in Fort Lauderdale. Where children and adults alike come to experience the magic of a pirate cruise sailing in South Florida in search of treasures.  The adventure is geared toward children but parents will enjoy it as well.

Upon arrival at the dock at your appointed time, the children are gussied up into pirate attire.  For a small fee you can buy some pirate gear like a an eye patch , bandana and sword.  After everyone arrives and is pirated up, there is a coming aboard ceremony.  They provide the life jackets for those under 18.  Be sure to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and water or you will have to pay for all of the above once on board.

The trip’s duration is 1 ½ hours. Upon arrival, the students will be taught the basic layout of the vessel and safety measures to be taken. Once all have boarded and taken their positions, the adventure begins. The first half of the trip will concentrate on science, and the second half including social studies and local history – while following nautical charts and locating specific land marks. The trip will end with a “battle on the high seas (intracoastal)” with the notorious “Barnacle Bill”, to claim a long lost treasure.

Some things to remember:

  • It’s hot.  Bring a hat.
  • It’s choppy so if motion sickness is an issue , take dramamine early.  Even if motion sickness isn’t an issue , bring it with you.  It’s a smallish boat so you really feel it moving.
  • It’s loud.  Got a kid with sensory issues?  Earplugs or noise canceling headphones.
  • Great for the 10 and under crowd.  Older kids will think it’s lame.
  • You get a great tour of local houses that you can see from the boat.  Very knowledgeable guides.

Bluefoot Pirate Adventures

It is a great adventure to wrap up learning about pirates in Florida.  You could easily stop to do while on your way to Miami or to anywhere in South Florida.  It is nicely done and small children will love it.
