Highlight the Rescue: PLS members from Spotsylvania COSO & Virginia State Police locate 45-year-old male client

On February 1, 2016 , Of. Dibella responded to the a call at a counseling group for a report that the client walked out of his counseling meeting. As Of. Dibella responded he asked dispatch to check if the man was still an active client. It was determined that he was now a client of Caroline Sheriff’s Office, since he moved there. Dispatch was able to get a frequency for the client.  Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver team is very familiar with him as he was a client of theirs for a while. During that time they were given special training to help them understand his condition with 239 alternate personalities. One of the things they learned about him is that an upside down purple triangle is his safe sign.

Since that training we were given a cloth purple triangle to carry on our person to help calm him when he is located.  When Of. Dibella began traveling down the road he began to pick up a slight chirp from his mobile antenna. He reached the end of road where the signal was much stronger, so he transitioned to his directional antenna.  He received a strong signal from directly east of his location, which he knew to be the main highway. Dispatch was able to assist him and told him that the client was in the area. Of. Dibella then asked dispatch to forward a BE ON THE LOOKOUT to the Virginia State Police.

When Sgt. Carter and Of. Dibella began to track east through the woods they were notified by dispatch that VSP had located the client on an exit near the highway. Of. Dibella continued through the woods where he met with VSP and the client. Of. Dibella was able to show the client his purple triangle that calmed him. The trooper advised that the client said that he was heading to the airport. The Trooper agreed to transport him back to the counseling group where his wife, case manager and counselor were standing by. Of. Dibella made contact with the sergeant in Caroline and advised him of the situation.  Well done by all in the dedicated work in help in bringing loved ones home!
