Fly Away: Too Real

Sometimes I often wonder how to express the importance of routine, and how as Parents of children on the Spectrum work everyday to make these routines possible.

Routines are extremely important, and within the first 20 minutes of the movie “Fly Away” you realize why having a routine helps maintain a sense of calm and order for our children.

The movie goes into more detail of how a single mother grapples with a growing child on the spectrum, and how in order to live her life – she has to let her daughter learn to grow on her own.

Now when watching this film I kept being reminded of how blessed I am to have a great wife who steps in regularly – and how we strive to work as a team.  It also is a blessing when you have the opportunity to have respite care to help out whenever possible.

The actor’s in this movie did a great job in depicting what family life is like on the spectrum.   In order to truly grasp the mother/daughter relationship, the on screen chemistry had to be ‘on the mark’ – and it was.

With the challenge of sharing what life is like for a family with Autism – the movie depicts it rather well… and at times it becomes very real.

I am reminded, however that this is one instance – one story of Autism, and yet there are thousands.

I’d personally recommend watching this movie, and I encourage anyone to view it – if only to gain a sense of what some families deal with on a daily basis.

Here’s more from the movie website – http://flyawaymovie.org/  (more interviews from the actors, etc…as well)

The movie is available on Netflix, and many other online streaming outlets – the DVD is also available.

Take a moment and look at it – and feel free to let me know what you think of it.
