Getting My Son’s iPad
Thanks to a long-time friend we were able to buy what we needed for my son, Short Stack.
In under 24 hours, she raised $795. And by the end of the week my Better Half and I walked into one of our local Best Buy stores to get what we needed.
Now I know what you may be thinking, Best Buy…. Joel…. a dangerous combination, and thanks to my long-time friend – it wasn’t as dangerous as it could be.
Can’t say how much I was tempted – but my pocket book didn’t suffer.
As expected the employees were nice and helped out in making sure we had the right case and insurance for what we were looking for and needed.
Initially we were thinking a 3rd party plan – like what Geek Squad has to offer, but I had to be sure of it’s pros and cons. After all, this wasn’t my money we were spending – it’s that of all those people who donated their hard earned money to help us find a way for my son to talk. #helpmysontalk
Needless to say, as I’ve shared in previous posts – the iPad is a welcomed sight in our home, and Short Stack is getting much use out of it.
He’s already using 3 apps, and is checking out all the other apps that I spent hours finding and installing.
A Big thanks to the guys and the Best Buy Landstown store in Virginia Beach, VA – they rocked with quick service and timely information.

@SeeBeeWrite@xanga – We found out this year that Short Stack’s school will allow an iPad to be brought in as therapists and teachers do use it. Might be awhile for that to happen, but we’re looking forward to it. Proloquo2Go is recommended – but it’s also an extra $190 – one of the more expensive apps. There’s a few others available that are FREE or less expensive. Currently we’re just getting him used to the iPad, hope he warms up to the communication apps soon.

That is a great story. I am so glad you guys were able to get donations for your son. I hope it helps him!
We have them for the special education department in our district. The various teachers/therapists can’t say enough great things about the apps and other features that have really helped their students. I’m sure this could have happened for another tablet, but the iPad is the first one I saw that was really touchable AND useable.
I hear a lot about Proloquo2Go, don’t know if you or anyone else would need it.
