My Boyfriend’s Brother Tortured and Killed Our Cat

I live with my boyfriend and his family:  His mother, father, older brother, and younger sister and brother (twins.)  The twins are 11 years old, and the boy is autistic.  That’s all I know about his diagnosis so don’t ask.

Neither of the two kids are in school.  They eat whatever they want.  The sleep whenever they want.  Did I mention the whole family (mom, dad, kids) all sleep on the living room sofa?  Not one person cleans up after themselves.  My boyfriend and I are constantly cleaning up after these people.  The two kids are seriously mistreated.

The boy has had no therapy.  He’s allowed to walk around naked throughout the house.  He punches and kicks his mother.  He places foreign objects in the microwave; empties out all the liquid from any bottle he can find; he doesn’t know how to wipe himself after using the bathroom; he wipes his blood and excrement on hand towels and mirrors;  he never wears pants;  he is allowed to use the computer whenever and however he wants, with no supervision.  He has flooded the house on numerous occasions, and my boyfriend and I are left to clean it up while his parents sleep.

Meanwhile the girl is constantly exposed to her brother’s genitalia, has to feed him, has to make sure he doesn’t get into any trouble, and has to dress him.  She is his twin, 11 years old.  WTF.  She has to take care of her brother who is twice her size, and can’t even form one correct sentence.

The other day I went downstairs to grab the mail.  My bf’s mom was in the den, the younger girl was sleeping on the couch and the boy was in the bathroom.  Whatever.  Except that when I went past the bathroom, the carpet was soaked.  Like, in puddles.  So I quick grabbed their mom and she broke into the bathroom that he was flooding.  Then I heard the worst thing possible come from inside the room:

“I got Stinker died.”  Then cackling, maniacal laughter.  Rinse and repeat.  Over and over again.

He killed one of our three cats.  Stinker was about 20 years old, and the sweetest cat around.  He doesn’t even have claws to defend himself.  Upon further investigation, my boyfriend found that Stinker was fed shampoo, and shoved into the toilet, the boy’s hand around his throat, and then shoved into the toilet’s drain with the plunger.  Stinker’s eyes were still open when we recovered his body.

This is the second cat the boy has killed.  The other one he doused with water and covered in litter then beaten and strangled to death.  But his parents were out of town, and refused to believe he actually killed this cat, Gia.  They said that the cat was all ready dead and he was just trying to wake her up.  BUT THEY WEREN’T EVEN IN THE SAME COUNTRY.

The boy also threw my cat out of a two story window when she was about 3 months old. She survived, none the wiser, but still.

All three of these instances have seen no consequence.  It’s as if they never even fucking happened.  My boyfriend’s parents still refuse to actually get his younger brother help.  They won’t even put him in this state of the art public school specifically for children on the spectrum.  WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with these people?

This boy has killed 2 cats, attacked another cat, set a parrot free.  I’m afraid of one day waking up to him over me with a knife.  I’m afraid that he will soon take out his aggression on his younger sister:  there are things worse than death, you know.

What should I do?  I’m at my wit’s end with these people and I really think some sort of authority should be brought in at this point.  I really, really need help BEFORE something even more terrible happens.

  • @dsullivan@xanga – THEY MIGHT BITE OFF HIS AUTISTIC COCK.  I’m curious about what happens to those kinds of people when they’re 30.  Do they flap their wings and go uu wha uu wha uu wha uu and just wander into traffic?

I think I have an escalator accident case in the law office involving a fat 37 year old diapered autistic and 2 other people including his father.  Diapered and nonverbal.  Bites in order to get attention.

Other animals such as dinosaurs have become extinct.

People don’t have much time left.  The planet cannot handle our depradations much longer.  The flailing of the autistic cat killers is a Symptom Of The Universe that’s written in our eyes…

  • I know this is v ery late of me,
but I would have killed the kid.  Anyone who cannot see that murdering an ninocent animal AFTER TORTURING IT is wrong does not serve humanity any purpose by existing.  That kid literally would be dead right now if it were me.  I would be sitting in a prison cell typing this.

Great answer! I would have done the same as well as tortured him the same way he killed the cats.

  • @Kodomo_no_Tsuki@xanga – I think everyone here can agree with the concern for the boy’s family. They, especially his sister, are in a horrible situation. Most autistics at the high functioning end of the spectrum are not at all violent. At the low functioning end, however, there can definitely be violent tendencies.

Trudy Steuernagel was repeatedly attacked by her son Sky for years. Eventually he beat her so badly she lingered in the hospital for a few days then died. When they found him he was in the basement. His feet and the bottom of his pajamas were covered in her blood. Seems he had knocked her down, then stomped her until she was still. Sky is very low functioning. When the courts were deciding what to do with him he had to be taken to his hearings in full body protective gear and wearing a helmet because he was spitting at everyone who got close to him and trying to bite people. At the time of her death his mother was trying to find a full-time in-home facility that was capable of caring for her son. It just didn’t happen soon enough.

I see echoes of Sky’s behavior in this kid and the OP needs to do something, if she hasn’t already. My worst fear here is that he will end up murdering the twin who takes care of him. Their parents should be jailed for not looking after him and leaving her with this tremendous responsibility at such a young age. When all of this is over she’s going to need serious therapy herself.

  • @Mjoana77 – I have to say, I didn’t expect such a polite response, thanks, actually. And no, I’m not a mother, I don’t really plan to be. And yes, I understand that, but I also see that, someday, if nothing is done about this kid, then he may go a step beyond cats, when he’s older, of course, and maybe even kill a human, maybe his sister.

  • FBI studies have shown that nearly all serial killers had a history of torturing and killing animals in their youth and throughout their lives.  Do as everyone has suggested.  Don’t wait another minute.

  • @Kodomo_no_Tsuki@xanga – The mind of an autistic child is very similar to the minds of animals….as far as behavior goes. I too love animals very much, and I always said the same thing when it came down to a human or an animal….but after maturing, becoming a mother (of an autistic child and another non-autistic) and studying psychology in college I’ve learned that we are all become the way we are from experiences in our lives…just the same as animals…we are just more social and verbal beings…and much more easily brainwashed through politics, schools and the people who raise us. Anyway, yes your comment sounds cruel, very cruel, but I think you just may not have reached motherhood to really realize what human development really is and how it all start from day 1 of life. No kidding…I hope one day you will see humans just as you see animals and understand that something, at some point in their lives made them be the way they are….People are not just cruel, mean, violent, rapists, murderers because they just woke up one day and said “hey I think today I torture a cat” something, someone or many things in that persons past has made him/her be the way they are. Blessings to you!

  • In regards to the animal torture/killing…It may be that he just sees animals and live moving toys and wants to play with them. He loves the water, as most autistic children do, and the two just go together in his mind as great play time. He may not realize that he is hurting them and may not know how to feel sadness for their suffering. so when the snimals try to flee, he may just grab them like a cat and mouse game. kindof like ah ha gotcha ya! Throwing this out of a window may just fill his visual sensory wants…something that I think no one in that house may have any idea about sensory issues. He may get a sensory stimulation watching the fall and the distance growing apart…and not a stimulation from watching a helpless animal in fear plumuting to his death. Hopefully this all make a little sense. Nonetheless you should definitely call CPS or you may even be considered an accomplice to this neglect….just my opinion. Just because they are not being physically tortured they are being seriously neglected and I can’t even decide which is worse. God Bless these children and their families. The sad thing is that there are many more families out there suffering who have not yet been found. Do the right thing no matter what anyone tells you…mind your business…but that’s my mom….I’ll get you for this….NO MATTER WHAT, GOD PUT YOU THERE FOR A REASON…TO TAKE A STAND FOR THOSE KIDS AND ALLOW THEM THE RIGHT TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE. MANY BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU!!

  • I’m sorry, what I’m about to say wll probably rub a lot of people the wrong way, so, that’s my warning…
I’d beat that boys ass, autistic or not. actually my first instinct is that I’d kill the fucker, but then I wouldn’t. I’d make his life a living hell. Now, listen, yes, that’s heartless and mean and blah blah blah, but I value an animals life over a humans, so to understand what I’m feeling, say it was switched, an it was an animal they kept trying to capture and was killing off people.

Now, on a more.. human level, I’d report it myself. If they didn’t do anything about it, then they are not fit to have the kids, much less really take care of themselves, but you can’t really do anything about that. Report it. That would be the best thing you could probably do for the kids, their parents, and the poor cats.

  • I think freeing a parrot is a good thing, but holy fucking Christ that boy’s parent’s seriously need to get a clue – yes autism means they don’t function the same as regular people, but there is so much help and training, I can’t believe that they have lived like this for 11years?! Defo call the social services and the RSPCA or whatever it is in the US, if that’s where you are, seriously the kids, the animals and the parent’s all need help!

  • The first thing you need to do is to make it look like an accident. When your bf finds his dead body, they would automatically assume that he went off a bend and got himself killed. The whole episode should not look like suicide since this fucking asshole won’t do himself in.

Just casually put a ladder up to the roof and make sure you have some sharp objects lying around on the ground for him to fall on. It will be quite fun to see him impaled.

  • Usually I don’t read posts if they are longer than a paragraph or two (I’m lazy like that) but this one I read. I’ve never seen a form of autism or whatever he suffers from this bad. My friend’s sister is autistic and the worst thing she’s ever done was eat a pet goldfish because she can’t distinguish from edible fish and pet fish. Like everyone’s said, call CPS and move the f out. BTW, your about me section is…. interesting… to say the least.

    Anyways, good luck.

tell me where you live and i will take care of this kid and make sure he never hurts anyone or any animal EVER again…i’m serious.
oh yeah and for the people saying “it’s the way he was raised” stop fucking being in denial…i’ve known kids who’s parents were GREAT to them, and they have turned out sick and twisted. nature beats nurture in most cases…some people are just born BAD
and the person writing this…you’re a fucking IDIOT!!!! why didn’t you get the fuck out and take your animals with you after this shit started happening?????? now your (second) cat is dead and you are partly to blame. good fucking job…you’re a pathetic immature little girl who needs to GROW UP and get out of that shitty situation! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!! get the hell off xanga and fucking do something to make the situation better!! goddamn!!!! or was the death of TWO of your cats not enough???
i am just giving you the truth…maybe you will realize what you HAVE to do

  • I agree– you need to call CPS immediately.

Also, it sounds like this child may either have oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) or conduct disorder (CD) and should be assessed. If caught early on and treated, you can possibly prevent things from getting much, much worse (like developing into antisocial personality disorder…. a sub-type of which is what people call “psychopaths”).

  • Please call CPS.  I have a relative who has multiple diagnoses: severe neurological damage, on the spectrum, sociopathic, etc.  He had to be institutionalised.  That may sound extremely harsh or unpleasant.  But every other alternative would have lead to death, either his or someone else’s.  Do not feel bad like you’re betraying someone.  From what you have said it is apparent that the situation is well beyond anyone’s control and will only go from bad to worse.  You cannot fix things by yourself. My relative was in a loving, stable home, however, he was beyond even their help.  This situation sounds even more desperate.  Please stop things from getting worse.  Please call CPS.

  • What the fuck?  After the first dead cat, CPS should’ve been called.  Don’t delay any longer, seriously.

  • @ToMarilyn@xanga – No, you’re right. Spot on, in fact. They don’t always go hand in hand, but it can just as easily happen to an autistic person as a neurotypical one.

I think in this case it’s a good possibility, judging by the delight the boy takes in knowing he has harmed or killed something, and this is behavior that is indicative of a serious mental illness. Autism doesn’t always have a mental illness associated with it, but it can and in this case it looks pretty severe.

I’m actually afraid for the people in that house.

  • I don’t mean to be ignorant, but is it possible he could be a sociopathic autistic child? I mean, anyone could be sociopathic.. even autistic children. Right? I could be wrong. But still..

    Reply
  • Uh, why HAVEN’T you called CPS yet? Especially after he killed the cats. The parents obviously don’t give a shit about their kids. The boy doesn’t know any better and trashes the house, and kills. One day it might be you or your boyfriend, or even his own parents. Do everyone a favor and call anonymously. Even his sister is going to be scarred from having to act like his mother. This is ridiculous and shame on you and your boyfriend for not having reported this a long time ago.

  • This is going to be one of the most difficult things you’ll probably ever have to do, but it’s one of those things you HAVE to do.  Call child protective services.  Obviously this boy needs help, the parents need to gain some common sense.  Doing this is obviously going to be hard, and will make waves in your family dynamic, however, just think of how you will feel if you don’t call and you do wake up to him over your bed holding a knife, or if he does harm his sister or anyone else.  I’ll be praying for you.

  • @FallingSafely@xanga – I’m not an expert in such matters, but it sounds to me like it’s more likely a combination of both.  You’re right that autistic children are usually deeply upset at even seeing an animal harmed (let alone causing the harm) — my ex and I are both autistic, and we both have overwhelming animal empathy.  On the other hand, Antisocial Personality Disorder doesn’t normally entail the hygiene and language issues being described here, either.

Regardless of whether I’m right or wrong about that, however, it’s definitely an issue for CPS, not Autisable.  This kind of thing requires direct intervention by professionals, and the OP isn’t going to be able to get that here.

  • @islandmonkeylover@xanga –  it’s either that or the kid was misdiagnosed autistic, but is really sociopathic. They are often confused. She didn’t call him “psycho”. Sociopathy is a legitimate mental health diagnosis under anti social personality disorder. And considering the parents neglected the kid to begin with, I doubt that any real testing has been done to discover which one it was. I’ve known people with anti social personality disorders that started out as young children killing and torturing animals and having no remorse over it. Most with autism would be deeply impacted by an animals hurt. Even if they were neglected. Sociopaths are socially challenged from birth, act not according to social norms and often misdiagnosed as autistic until things like this start happening. Either way this kid needs help immediately. These behaviors are very clearly only the beginning.

  • It’s already been said more than once, but just to add my voice to the chorus: you need to call CPS.  You’re in way, way, *way* over your head, here, and this kind of situation requires the help of a professional.  Or more likely, a number of professionals.  I know it’s hard to report family to CPS — I’ve been in situations that warranted it, and I simply didn’t have the strength of character to go thru with it.  I hope you’re stronger than I am.

Please keep us advised of developments.  Good luck.

NOT a good sign… I mean, I know at young ages when we don’t understand pain and death we ALL might hurt an animal, but not to this degree/calibur. This is extreme… and is an honest sign of something MUCH darker and WEIRDER going on.

No offense, but absolutely everyone commenting is right. You NEED to call child protective services on these people. They are obviously not willing or stable enough to take care of their own.

Of course those poor animals do not deserve what happened to them but it is not right to label someone like that when clearly they are being abused.

  • Animal abuse like that is part of the Macdonald triad, you know. It’s associated with sociopathic behavior and a lot of serial killers exhibit those behaviors during childhood. So it wouldn’t really be surprising if that kid turned out to be a serial killer. He obviously needs some sort of treatment and you should really call CPS like everyone is saying and get the fuck out of your house. Common sense.

I do agree that CPS should be called. Although I’m sure that taking this step would cause multifaceted reactions and feelings, you must know that it’s the right thing to do. I can’t imagine anyone who’d do such things being able to function in society, but maybe with a lot of help, the boy could actually do something productive and/or non-destructive with his life.

  • I read this on your page a while ago and was shocked and sad, didn’t know what to say. It seems as though the child needs to go into a behavioral stabilization unit or crisis center, where his problem behaviors can be assessed and treated properly. Sometimes, though, it’s not the person per se, it’s the environment that creates the contingencies that make behaviors like this possible. So, as others have said, he needs to be removed from his family environment immediately, and as I suggest, placed into a behavioral treatment program which specializes in aggressive and homicidal behaviors.

  • I agree, it’s past time to call CPS. My two youngest are autistic and have behavior issues, but nothing as severe as killing animals. Get your cats, get out and call someone in to help before something horrible happens to one of the people in the house. Rest assured, he will assault someone eventually.
