A Staples Adventure

We took the family out to eat for Bearhug and Cuddlebug’s birthday, and tried to time it so we’d arrive after the lunch crowd but before the dinner crowd. Our boys really don’t do crowds, especially Bitty, and we wanted it to be a pleasant outing.

But it didn’t even occur to us that the restaurant wouldn’t be open for lunch.

We arrived at 3:30pm to find it locked with an empty parking lot. Oops.

Luckily, we didn’t miscalculate by too far, the sign on the front door said they’d be open at 4pm. So we had a half hour to entertain the boys and keep everyone in a good mood.

We did what any family would do in circumstances, got back in the car and started driving around the nearby parking lots.

We ended up at Staples (oh yeah, when the boys have to write the obligatory “what I did this summer” essays in the fall, they can write all about how they went to Staples for their birthday. Good times! LOL).

You might be surprised at how much fun there is to be found inside a Staples store. There’s the spinning office chairs, the water fountain, and a whole aisle full of homeschool supplies. We picked up some sketchpads for the boys and some new flash cards for Bitty.

Bitty also found himself a pink stapler. Who knew they even had such a thing?!
(of course he has since decided that his favorite color is now red, not pink, so he wants to take the pink stapler back to the store to exchange for a red one. we don’t have the receipt, so I just keep it in the drawer and let him use the black one)

Bearhug and Cuddlebug entertained themselves by trying out the various pens (there was a display with small pads of paper and various display pens for testing).

They used their online “screen names” so I didn’t even have to edit the names to post on the blog. 🙂 Cuddlebug is “Sparky” and Bearhug is “Jeep Crash” (don’t ask, I’m not really sure where that came from but since he loves to crash into everyone and everything it does seem appropriate doesn’t it?).

Thanks for reading my feed! Feel free to stop by and leave a comment to let me know what you think :).

I’m a mom of three boys on the autism spectrum — 11-yr-old id twins and their 7-yr-old little brother — and wife to my dh of 19 yrs who is a SAHD. My blog is where I share our story, as well as topics relating to autism awareness & acceptance, twins, the silliness three little boys can get into, and whatever else is on my mind. Hopefully some of what we’ve learned over the years is helpful to others (or at least entertaining).
